Who are you?...

Yes, I meant gonna! Not going to, or about to, but what are you gonna do! Gonna, has a little more force than going to or about to because it implies that action needs to be immediate. So many people have shuffled through their lives, embodying the reflection of who someone says they are or who someone else’s perception or words has limited them to be. But God knows the plans that he has for you!

For this reason, if we want the best advice and an untainted view of ourselves, we get should look to God for our answer. A definition I like from thefreedictionary.com states that validation is an act of determining the properties of something. So… hold it! Who can tell you the properties of something better than the maker of the thing? This doesn’t mean that God won’t relay or reveal parts of those properties to a leader, a close associate, or a family member. It just means that the plans started with him and they end with him.

The first part of Jeremiah 1:5 states that God knew him even before he formed him in his mother’s womb. That same fact applies to us! He already knew who you were, what you would be, he knew your issues, and he knew your strengths before you were born. He loves you because you are his son (we are all sons in the kingdom). He is your Father once you acknowledge and accept the gift that God has given to you through salvation. Look at Jeremiah 1 and see that Jeremiah was not exactly sure of who he was. He thought he had to qualify for the purpose that God had already given him, but God told him exactly who he was.

A snake doesn’t have to qualify to be a snake, and neither does a cow have to qualify to be a cow, so why do we think we have to qualify to be who God says we are? It will take discipline, training, spending time with Jesus, and getting to know him to walk in that purpose. You will need leaders, coaches, and godly counsel to help you excel in your purpose, but you have to own who you are and the first thing you should know that you are is a son!
